What will my session be like?

As you can see by looking through my portfolio, I love taking relaxed, candid photos of my clients. If you are looking for perfectly posed images, then I am probably not the photographer for you. My style with photographing newborns is very simple – I won’t put your baby in a basket or prop him/her in an unnatural pose. It will just be about soft skin and swaddles, and I take many photos of them in your arms. I document the little perfect details that you have spent so many hours soaking in, like feet, hands and pouty lips. I set up the scenes and then step back and let you interact as a family. I encourage parents to snuggle their little ones, be affectionate with each other, and hopefully forget I am even there!

When is the best time to take newborn photos?

I can help you create beautiful images of your little one any time, but if you are really wanting sleepy baby photos, the first ten days after baby’s arrival is ideal. If you’re not quite ready in the first couple of weeks after baby arrives, that is fine! Wide eyed baby pictures are some of my favorites :)

Where will my session take place?

I am an on-location natural light photographer, meaning I come to you. Newborn sessions are always done at home, while maternity sessions or family sessions can be done at another location (like a park, the beach, etc.) that we agree on. I am always happy to make suggestions for a location! If we are doing the session at your home, I need a good source of natural light, like big windows or french doors.

What should we wear?

I like my clients to wear whatever they feel great in. I want your style to come through! For newborn sessions, I normally suggest lighter colors for a soft, gentle feel to your photos, but if bright and vibrant is your thing, do it! For family sessions, I suggest coordinating your colors without being too matchy matchy. Layers are great, small prints are fine. I would steer clear from big prints like stripes, or shirts with logos. If you need more ideas, you can visit this Pinterest board I have set up to give my clients some inspiration! Are any digital files included in the session fee?

No. The session fee covers my time at the session, plus my time to fully edit and retouch the images for your gallery. Digital files can be purchased as part of a collection or a la carte. With the purchase of digital files you receive a limited print release for personal use, so you can make prints for yourself, friends and family.

Do we get to see all the images you took during the session? Can we have the unedited (RAW) files?

The only images that are shown in your gallery (and there will be approximately 40) are the ones that I have deemed to be the best of all the images I take during your session (in terms of clarity, composition, expression, etc.). I never show or give my clients unedited or RAW files. This is for both of our benefit – you see only the best, most flattering images of your family, and I ensure that only my best work is seen out in the world!

When can I see my photos?

About two weeks after our session I will send you a password protected online gallery where you can view your photos. From there, purchasing your images is easy, whether in a collection or a la carte. Digital downloads will be available immediately, and other prints and products, like albums or wall art, will be shipped to you approximately 2-3 weeks after placing your order.
